As Lady Gaga readies her fans for her newest album and application experience “ARTPOP”, the world haunts and watches in amazement. Scheduled for release on November 11th, Monsters still have awhile to go in waiting for the new record. However, while fans and the public wait, Lady Gaga has some tricks up her sleeve to keep the attention focused on, what could be, the album of the decade.
In July 2013, Gaga announced many new details concerning “ARTPOP”. One of which was that the singer’s first single since 2011’s “Marry the Night” would be dropping on August 19th, 2013. The single would be entitled “Applause” and Gaga confirmed some lyrics from the song. “I live for Applause, I live for the way that you cheer and scream for me,” sings Gaga in the dramatic chorus of the song. However in early August, a demo version of a new song called “Aura” was leaked out. Several high and low quality snippets of the song began leaking onto multiple social media outlets. Due to these unfortunate leaks, the Lady and her team had to act fast and release the single one week early on August 12th, 2013. The single was met with an extremely positive response. The pop-fueled dance track features a theatrical Gaga voicing her yearning for “Applause”. In an interview, Gaga had said that applause is not interchangeable with the fame. Applause isn’t something that an artist can achieve through the paparazzi, magazines or TV. Applause can only be given to an artist by their fans, and this is what Gaga wanted to get at with the lead single from ARTPOP.
While running through Los Angeles, California on her “Applause” promotional tour, Lady Gaga sat down for an interview with AMP radio. During the interview, Gaga spoke candidly about many details about the album including the application that will be released in sync with the album, the iTunes festival that she will be headlining, and her hip surgery that brought her successful worldwide tour to a screeching halt earlier this year. Fans learned that the application, which will be available come November 11th on the App Store and Google Play, will allow users to create their own music using the Trackstar system. Another feature Gaga announced will allow users to form sculptures. Lady Gaga shared exclusively to AMP radio that she would be headlining the iTunes Festival this year and said that she will be performing an hour of new music from ARTPOP including “Applause” and “Aura”. In the final moments of the interview, Gaga announced that she had been working with Terry Richardson on a “Making of ARTPOP” movie, in which fans could see the recording of songs, music videos, and even the hip surgery that Gaga had earlier in 2013.
Although fans already knew that Gaga would be performing at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on August 26th, she announced that she would be opening the show with her smash hit “Applause.” When the VMA’s came around, Gaga was one of the most talked about performances of the night. However her appearance was cut short. When Gaga heard that One Direction was booed off stage during an acceptance speech, she left the venue because she was “disgusted” with the audience. Although short, the VMA appearance was a great start to the ARTPOP promotional tour. This performance screamed, “she’s back.”
The next big performance that Gaga has lined up is the iTunes Festival on September 1st. Following that appearance, Gaga will begin another leg of the European promotional tour. Fans can hardly wait for the album, as new information is constantly being released. ARTPOP will be released, physically and digitally, this November along with the application. As the lady sang during the Video Music Awards performance, “I’m ready, it is show time.”
