Everyone has had a favorite song on the radio that they have enjoyed singing along and dancing to, until it was on repeat on every single station that is. So far 2014 has been a year of great catchy music that people can’t help but sing along to. The most played song stuck in everybody’s head at the moment, Happy by Pharell Williams, the ironic lyrics “clap along if you know what happiness is to you” is doing The complete opposite of what it should be doing.“ Happy annoys me so much they need to take it off the radio, I will literally change the channel and it will be on 4 stations.” Says Sophomore Kelsey Warren. This supposed to be happy song is starting to make radio users frustrated and encouraging them to turn their radios, much like the soundtrack to Disney’s “Frozen”
This soundtrack blew up big in the matter of just a few weeks and folks got tired of it just as quickly. Nobody wants to “build a snowman” anymore they just want to “let it go,” this Disney soundtrack is played all over the radio, T.V and in stores for shoppers to have playing in the back of their minds. People can’t take much more of these Disney Frozen songs.
Taking a “Selfie” has gotten hard out of hand when the song “#Selfie” by The Cainsmokers shot up the charts and started to appear on the radio and T.V. This song is strictly about how people tend to take a “selfie” before everything that they do typically mocking teenage girls with the words “But first, let me take a selfie.” This song hits the charts and became a #1 hit in only a few days. It did not take long for people to start complaining.
“Don’t make me your enemy” says Katy Perry in her newest hit “Dark Horse”, which has quickly become everyone’s enemy after being played on every radio station at the same time. This song has a fun unique but catchy beat that had stuck in listeners heads for days and weeks. “I’m tired of hearing Dark Horse, I don’t like Katy Perry” explains Freshman Tahja Brown. Dark Horse has been charting at number one in Canada, Netherlands and the United States. ”I hate Dark Horse it is so over played oh my god” says Freshman Madi Dobbs.
The radio has had its fair share of songs that have been worn down and over played so far in this year. Listeners are waiting for brand new music to come out to escape those annoying yet catchy song that have been living inside of their heads.
