It’s time to go back. The heavily praised critically acclaimed film ‘Coraline’ was put back in theaters for people to experience their childhood favorites over again in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the movie. Now in 3-D, exquisite producer Tim Burton and director Henry Selick who has been recently a subject of of sexual assault allegations , made the incredible film along with ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, praised as the master of stop motion features and 3-D animation.
For those who haven’t watched it yet Coraline is a girl who comes with her hardworking mom and dad to a strange old house in remote Oregon where the adults plan on working on the gardening catalog they’re writing. Coraline encounters an odd kid in the houses grounds called Wybie and also meets her neighbors: two weird old ladies who once had a saucy act at a circus show, and a performing mouse trainer, Mr. Bobinsky, whose funky accent surely influenced Steve Carell’s Gru in Despicable me.
Coraline discovers a secret portal in the house , which leads her to a parallel version of her world, only it’s one in which her parents are adoringly attentive towards her, and lavish her with the love she’s not getting anywhere else. The only problem is that her new mom and dad have got buttons for eyes, and their initial charm soon wears off as she realizes the terrifying ocular sacrifice they expect her to stay there.
It’s the kind of movie that could traumatize a child but as one news media quotes; “the seductive power of appearances and the importance of remaining vigilant and true to oneself “ – Medium. One thing to also note is that buttons in European folklore ward off evil spirits and witches. Not serving the same purpose in the film.’’ No matter what age you are you can understand the message of the movie, which is you should be careful about what you wish for,.’’ says one Coraline fan. All in all its great to see this iconic movie in theaters again. Coraline seems widely recommended to those who want to relive their childhood memories while celebrating its 15th anniversary
