Miss Sagat, former Twilighters sponsor, has brought Joliet West a new club for the 2010-2011 school year. The focus of the school’s new addition is her current literary obsession, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
The novel’s nonstop action is precisely why Miss Sagat wanted to form the Hunger Games Club. Once they start the book, readers get sucked into the plot and can’t put it down. “You will get hooked into the story of the main character, Katniss Everdeen, and her struggle to survive,” says Miss Sagat, “The Hunger Games will become a movie eventually, and I think it has the potential to become bigger than the Twilight Saga.”
Members of this club will be taking part in a wide variety of activities. Joining would be a great way to get involved in Joliet West and to meet people with similar interests. Students will be participating in archery activities, attend movies, perform community service, and read other books found on the Abraham Lincoln book list.
The Hunger Games Club will meet after school on Tuesdays before SIP days. On those days, the club can be found in room E157 until 4:15. All students are welcome to join – even those who haven’t read the book yet. Miss Sagat’s hopes are that “the members of this club will expose the world of the Hunger Games to the students, faculty, and staff of Joliet West and promote literacy throughout the community.” The Hunger Games Club is the perfect fit for avid readers looking to join an exciting club.
