As the longer than usual winter break is coming to an end, SATs are not far behind. It’s about that time of year when SAT prep is at full swing at Joliet West. Time to take the practice test, along with the real one are coming soon for juniors and sophomores.
The SAT will be administered on April 10th this year for all juniors. There are free SAT prep programs offered through JTHS. The in-person sessions will begin on the week of January 29th and continue to the week April 5th. The two times for students to attend these courses are before school 7:20 am to 8:15 am, and after school 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
Junior Jessica Gallegos stated that, “I’m doing Khan Academy, and I’m going to SAT prep starting the 29th.” These are both resources that are free to use and are the most popular with students studying the test.
Along with the SAT, juniors are required to take the state of Illinois Science Test. The testing window is from Mar. 11 to Mar. 22.
The PSAT will be administered on Apr. 11 this year for all Sophomores. This is the last PSAT that students will be required to take before the real SAT. However, if they still aren’t happy with their score, there is an option to retake at particular testing sites.
Junior Eli Pearson stated that, “Honestly, I didn’t even realize that the test was coming up so soon.” He then continued to say, “I haven’t even started to prepare.” Another junior said, “God no, I’m not prepping for the SAT, not if I can’t help it.”
Although Pearson isn’t alone because the general consensus is that not a lot of juniors have started to prepare. But for those who haven’t started preparing just yet, there is still a lot of time. On the college board website there are a lot of materials that students can access for free to study.
