New school year, New teachers! Joliet West has a group of new coming staff including new teachers. Among the group of teachers is Mr. Letourneou who teaches English and Ms. Vainikos who also teaches and co teaches English. While they don’t know about the teachers, students can get to know them, so a series of questions about their goals, and more about the years they have worked as teachers and even the most memorable moments in their high school life has been asked! Every teacher was once a student, so here’s things about the new teachers you may want to know.
Mr. Letorneau teaches tenth grade English in room B106 and states “What I really found different about this school compared to the other school I taught at was the size. Then I saw that this school has something for everybody. The clubs, the groups and classes there are definitely options for everybody with different interests.”
Mr. Letorneau’s goals for his students and the students he comes across in general is to help their confidence and help with their comfort in the community they are in. He looks forward to helping students enhance and grow in their learning environment and a fun fact about Letorneau was if he wasn’t a teacher he would’ve been a vet! If there were a smaller variety of other animals than dogs, of course.
Ms. Vainikos teaches a mix of tenth grade and ninth grade English and among those students are newcomers! Students that are learning english. She chose west for its drive of cultural background and great environment. She as a student in high school has always liked peer interactivity and helping others and tutored with students as a student. If she were not to be a teacher she would’ve become a doctor.
“Something that involves being able to be helpful and make an impact. I want to be a teacher remembered as one who was willing to teach things for everyday life. I want my students to know that practice doesn’t always make perfect but makes progress and there is always a way to improve. I want encouragement to be an instilled message for students and really help them become comfortable with lending out a hand to the environment.” she says.
That’s the insight on the teachers! Get to know these sociable, full of life teachers, that will allow you to make room for mistakes and like all teachers will always, make time for improvement.
