Joliet West is proud to announce Mr. and Miss Alpha Omega for the graduating class of 2011. AJ Galli and Michelle Lega were crowned Mr. and Miss Alpha Omega at the Senior Awards night on May 12. Mr. and Miss Alpha Omega is a prestigious award that the yearbook presents to one senior boy and one senior girl. The qualifications to be chosen are impressive and the process began months ago.
The top ten boys and top ten girls were chosen by a process: a list was made of students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. This list was sent out to teachers who then evaluated the students based on behavior and leadership.
The chosen students were then required to complete an extensive resume detailing activities, leadership positions, and volunteer service both in and out of school. These resumes were sent to a panel of judges. The judges then interviewed the top ten students and awarded points based on leadership, poise, maturity and commitment to Joliet West and the community. The winners were determined solely on the resume and interview.
Galli and Lega were each awarded a $500 scholarship. The first runners-up, Sam Wietlispach and Paola Rico, were awarded $100. The second runners-up were Connor Relyea and Elizabeth Spesia.
