On the September 22nd SIP day, the yearbook staff reported to West at the regular time in order to host the annual SWSC Fall Yearbook Workshop. A total of 15 schools began arriving on campus around 8:30 and then left at 12:30. Between those times, visitors traveled around the building to sit in on various presentations including graphic design, theme development, photography, and copy and caption writing.
It was a beneficial morning for all who participated, as several aspects of yearbook production were covered. Herff Jones representatives and other professionals working in the fields instructed students on how to successfully develop a wide range of skills, from photography to caption writing. In the photography session, editors were taught about everything that’s involved in taking good, quality pictures and were given tips for finding the perfect moments to capture and taught about the proper use of camera settings and controls.
The Alpha Omega staff served as guides and ambassadors of the school. They were responsible for positively reflecting JTHS as they brought groups around to their presentations and answered any questions they might have had. After delivering students to the rooms, the West editors also listened and participated in the workshops.
The information that was learned at this conference will be of great use to the Journalism students when working on the 2011-2012 “Branching Out” yearbook, making everyone very excited. It is certain that the upcoming book will be a success. Copies of the 2011-2012 yearbook can be ordered in room B247 for $48. Reserve yours today!
