Cubs drop Ross for new rival manager

Following the end of the 2023 MLB season, the Cubs have made an abrupt move to drop David Ross, with rival manager Craig Counsel taking his place.

Counsel is the longest tenured national league manager and will continue that by taking the helm in Chicago. Counsel and the Cubs agreed to a 5 year 40 million dollar deal.  Counsel will be introduced by the Cubs next week in the classic Cubbie blue pinstripes. The excitement in Chicago erupted with Counsel signing on with the Cubs.

This will be the Cubs’ third manager since their historic 2016 season, those before him being Joe Maddon and up until recently David Ross. The Cubs look for this to be an additional step towards being contenders for the upcoming 2024 season.

Brewers fans are shocked by this move and many of the players couldn’t believe the decision that their now former skipper has made. “It kind of came out of nowhere,” said Brewers’ ace Brandon Woodruff, adding on ”We’re just shocked initially.”

Throughout the past season the Brewers tried to engage with Counsel about an extension but Counsel wanted to explore his options in the free agent market.

The breaking news came from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal on Nov. 6, 2023.
