Churches all across Joliet now face the possibility of closing. There are multiple reasons why churches are closing. From the inability to pay for damage to their church to even the amount of people showing up to mass is an all time low. Most of the churches also make most of their money off of donations from people in attendance and they don’t have enough donation money to support the church. Parishes like St. Jude Joliet, and St Peter and Paul have had troubles with gaining money and looking for other ways to keep their church open.
The most common reason why the churches might be closing is because there aren’t enough people attending. The churches have only about 37.4 percent of the full attendance showing up to mass. Yes, nothing much has changed from a year ago but the churches need more people because the lack of people could cost their church of staying up. The churches are going out and trying to get people to attend their church even once a week to help the church. Yet the churches still need donations to actually keep the church afloat.
The second big problem the churches are having is that not as many people are donating to the church and as previously said, most churches live off of donations alone. The goal for every church is to get to the mark of $300,000 of money making it from donations or however they get their money. If they don’t reach the mark they get shut down. Which is why all the joliet churches that are having this problem are fighting to keep their church from shutting down fully.
