During the month of September and October 15th it is the month of Hispanic Heritage Month. This month is a time to celebrate Hispanic and Latino history and culture.
The independence days in several Latin American countries: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile and Belize
Celebrations can be done in many different ways but for many their way of celebrating is by getting all your family together and having a backyard cookout. Others just decide to go out as a family to eat at their favori
te Mexican restaurant.
Sometimes small communities can get together to share their favorite cultural dishes varying from Tamales, Tacos, Pozole, Esquites, etc.
All these dishes are part of Mexican culture and can be made to preference.
Other places sometimes might have special parades to celebrate Mexican Independence day too.
Some other things that you may be able to see during this month are special events like in Joliet we had an event at Bicentennial park Sept 14th. At that event the Joliet Community Mariachi was there. Other things that could be seen during this month could be Folklorico. Any culture can be represented in a lot of different ways but music plays a huge role in Hispanic culture as well as dance.
Remembering your roots and culture is an important part of life as it is where your descendants come from and who you are. Hispanic heritage month is a great month to show pride in your culture and remember about the history behind it.
Following Hispanic Heritage Month, Dia De Los Muertos is right around the corner, taking place on Friday November 1st and Saturday November 2nd. This holiday reunites the living and the dead, causing it to be very heartfelt holiday for many. Families create “ofrendas” or offerings to their passed loved ones, sometimes these offerings are as simple as their favorite food or a toy. Their altars are often decorated with flowers, pictures, and colorful mantels. The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrating life and death, unlike any other.
