For the past three years, the Joliet West athletic department has hosted a children’s baseball camp. It has previously been a successful program. This year is no exception with the enrollment of 225 kids.
Over $10,000 has been generated from the camp during the 2010-2011 school year. The funds earned from the program have been used to benefit Joliet West’s athletic department. In addition to being the coach’s compensation, money has also gone towards uniforms, equipment, and field renovations. West has been making great strides toward improving their fields. Plans for the renovations have included grassing the baselines, installing new fencing, and bringing in a new mound and home plate.
Camp activities include the participants working on their skills in the infield, outfield, hitting, and pitching. The program incorporates all aspects of playing baseball and provides a way for the kids to hone their skills while having fun with other players their age.
West plans to continue hosting the children’s baseball camp in coming years. The winter session will continue, possibly with modified dates, and the summer session will come as planned.
