The 2024 Joliet West boys baseball team has a lot to prove this season. The team is led by mostly seniors including third basemen James Love, shortstop Jimmy Anderson, and catcher Owen Young. Along with some junior help in the outfield like Junior Zach Chignoli, Peyton Barborek, and Cade Horvath. The Tigers finished last year with the highest wins in school history. With new key pieces and returning players the Tigers are looking to make their first trip to state.
Everyday the team meets in the first period and gets a good lift in or some conditioning. This really helps the team morale and gets the players stronger before the season starts. The team just started incorporating open gyms starting everyday till 8-10 o’clock in the morning. When asking team leader James Love about the early morning he said, “It really gets the blood flowing and I think it’s great for the team chemistry and helps you see what role you might have as a player for this team.”
The coaching staff is just as strong as last year with head coach John Karczewski, hitting coach Jonathan Murray, infield coach Wayne King, outfield coach Kurt Ruch, and pitching coach Tyler Brown. Truly the best of the best and this is one of the if not the most talented roster in Joliet West history. When asking pitching coach Tyler Brown about his pitching this year he stated, “I think we have the best rotation in the conference and these kids have been preparing for months working outside of school with me and inside of school in the weight room.” To conclude everything, The tigers have a lot to play for this season and are looking forward to an amazing season.
